Fire at Pradarshan Maidan(Pologround - Vadodara) Story + Video [As it Happened]

It all Started with a 5 paise fire-cracker. A boy came to Shop No. 9 and asked for a Gun (Diwali Fire Cracker Gun), so the Salesman of the Shop gave the Boy Gun for the Trial that whether it is working or is it OK for him or not. The boy then added some fire cracker to that Gun (which was Chinese) and the boy pressed the trigger. Then the Gun's Small piece of Small Particle of Fire-Cracker felt onto another Fire Cracker placed in the Shop & the Whole Shop catched Fire.

Then Simultaneously all Shop caught fire and the Scene (I really Saw that & I was totally Shcoked) was very Bad.

Big & Giant Clouds of Fire were going up in the Sky. Fire-Crackers were burning & were going here & there.

News is that Some were Injured, One Boy (8-Year Old) is found Dead from the last Shop by the Fire Services of Vadodara & Some 8-10 Scooters+Cars were Burnt.

Bad News is that the Boy which Fire Services had Found was Fully Burnt & the Boy's Leg-Hand & Head Part were Dissolved with the Fire.

Noteworthy is that, 40 years before at same Place Fire took place in the Year 1972.
Lastly I would say it was a Bad Day 10-11-12 for Vadodara.

From Times of India:

Vadodara district collector Vinod Rao said the fire had started between 3.35 pm and 4 pm.

"Within 15 to 20 minutes, all the shops located on the ground, including all the crackers kept inside, were gutted in the fire. The fire brigade officials, police, staff and health officials managed to bring the fire under control. The three persons were injured due to fume suffocation and not burns. They have been shifted to SSG Hospital," Rao said.

City police commissioner Satish Sharma said the police will investigate all the angles. "We will be taking the assistance of FSL experts to probe the matter. All the aspects will be kept in mind," Sharma said.

Councillor Parshottam Hemnani, whose son has a stall at the market, said he was present when the incident took place. "There was a major rush and the fire started in a row of stalls near that of my son. We had to escape from the spot. Soon all shops started burning and there was little that anybody could do," he said.

Around 20 fire tenders and tankers were pressed into action to douse the flames. The smoke bellowing out of the ground could be seen at distant locations.

The crackers bursting at the ground led to minor fires at apartments, cabins and even at the M S University press located near the ground.

The amount of damage caused by the fire has not yet been arrived at by the authorities. However, sources quoted shopkeepers and others to say that it could be around Rs 2 crore.

UPDATE: 8 Year Boy Identified

The eight-year-old boy, who died in the fire at firecracker shops at Polo Ground on Saturday, was cremated by his father on Sunday afternoon.

Moin Sheikh's body was handed over to his father Salim Sheikh after conducting postmortem.

Though Salim recognized and accepted his kid's body, police have sent Moin's DNA samples for tests to confirm his identity.

The boy was class II student of Sayaji Vidya Vihar School and used to stay with his grandmother. Moin's father and mother had got separated four years ago. Salim works at a cycle repairing shop and had financial problems. "The family has identified Moin's body, but we have to verify the deceased's identity officially. We will wait for the FSL tests," said city police commissioner Satish Sharma.

Moin had accompanied his father to the firecrackers shops for buying some crackers ahead of Diwali. When the fire broke out, Moin got separated from his father and got trapped in the blaze.

Sharma also clarified that the police have not got any other missing persons complaint after the tragedy.
